If you use a browser to look at an XML file exported using the Custom Format, you'll see something like this:
After the XML and document type declarations, there is a list of tags. These tags represent the contents of your report arranged sequentially, item by item. For example, the first few lines of the XML data shown above represent a report that begins with a header area containing a cross
<Report xmlns="urn:crystal-r eports:schemas"> <ReportArea Level="0" Type="Report"> <ReportHeader Type="Header"> <ReportHeader_1 SectionNumber="0"> <Crosstab>
<report>
represents the report itself
<ReportArea>
represents the generic report area
<ReportHeader Type="Header">
represents the specific report area: the header
<ReportHeader_1 SectionNumber="0">
represents a subdivision of the report header area
<Crosstab>
represents a crossThe entire XML file can be read in such a way. Each line in the XML data has a direct relation to your Crystal report and its Report Definition as defined in the Customize XML dialog box.
Note: The element tag names in this example are the default names; they will be different if you changed them in the XML Format dialog box.
