Trendlines dialog box

This dialog box appears when you right-click a data series item on a chart in the Analyzer tab to bring up the shortcut menu, then click Trendlines.

Use the Trendlines dialog box to fit one or more statistical lines or curves to a series of data on the chart.

Note:    In previous versions of Crystal Reports, this dialog box was called the Curve Fit & Stat Lines dialog box.

Curve Types

Shows the available curve types.

Show Curve(s)

Shows the curves that will be displayed on the chart.

Add

Click the Add button (>) to copy the selected curve type from the Curve Types list to the Show Curve(s) list.

Remove

Click the Remove button (<) to remove the selected curve from the Show Curve(s) list.

Remove All

Click the Remove All button (<<) to remove all curves from the Show Curve(s) list.

Show Color same as Series

Use this option to show the curve in the same color as the selected series item on the chart.

Show Formula

Use this option to display the formula of a regression line (linear, log, exponential, and so on) on the graph. However, this function is not available for simple curves such as mean, standard deviation and connected lines.

This option is only available when a regression or polynomial curve is selected in the Show Curves list.

Show Correlation Coefficient

Use this option to display how closely a curve fit line intersects with the data-points it is charting.

This option is only available when a regression or polynomial curve is selected in the Show Curves list.

Smooth Factor

Type a value (between 10 and 1000) in this box to control the smoothness of the curve or regression line. The higher the number, the smoother the curve.

This option is only available when a Smooth, Regression or Polynomial curve is selected in the Show Curves list.

Order

Type a value to specify the order of the curve. The options vary, depending on the curve.

Moving Average

Order determines the number of values within a period. If you enter 3 for the number of periods, the first 3 values (P1, P2, P3) will be averaged. One value is then shifted over to take another 3-value average (P2, P3, P4). This continues (in groups of 3) until the final value is reached.

Polynomial

Order 0

Draw line at the mean.

Order 1

Draw linear regression line.

Order 2

Draw second order curve.

Higher order

Draw higher order polynomials.

Financial/Scientific

Click Financial to plot the average of each period at the right end of the period.

Click Scientific to plot the average of each period in the middle of the period.

These options are only available when a Moving Average curve is selected in the Show Curves list.
